This location also has all the things we need it to have in order to create this opening scene.
This film will include the following conventions of thriller films:
- Guns
- Knife
- Poison
- Empty Beer bottles
- Phones
- File
- Weapons
- Dangerous Items
- Dirty Scenes to create a dull scene
- Contrast between a "happy life" and a "dull life"
These conventions will help the audience to experience a sense of suspense and tension. The use of contrast will also help the audience see what the character is going through in those two different times, one being the past (happy) and the other being the present (dull)
After watching similar thriller opening scene such as "paper boy" we have decided that we will take on the same style but alter it slightly. We want to have the same effects used in paper boy but try to include more thriller themes and conventions earlier on. This will be achieved through music, duller setting, props, actors expressions, dangerous items, and other thriller conventions.
~ Knifes
~ Poison
This will help to build more of a thriller tone and try to get the audience at the edge of their seat.
2. Duller Setting -
~ Changing the colour grade
~ Darker Lighting
A duller setting will indicate to the audience that something is wrong and will be easier to build suspense due to the audience not knowing what is there.
3. Family Related -
~ Having the story line be related to a family
Having the story line related to a family will be beneficial to us for building more of a emotional experience for our audience.
(1) Character Name: Alexander - Main Character
James - Family Member
Daniel - Main Characters Boss
(2) To show a connection to what some people live like compared to others. Also to show how quickly someones life can change. This film should show a connection between a good life compared to a bad one.
(3) Mood and Tone: The mood and tone of this film is mainly a comparison between a good life, with a stable family and job. To a Bad one with no family and an unstable job.
(4) Camera Shots, Camera Movement/Lighting/Angles, Lighting: The different shots that will be included in this film will be a canted shot, shot showing walking feet, close ups, wide shots, panning, and many more.
(5) Themes: Themes should be showing a good life comparing to bad one within the characters life.
(6) Narrative: Happy character wakes up ---> gets breakfast and reads newspaper ---> alarm goes off (switches scene/mood) ---> Bad character wakes up ---> gets breakfast ---> receives text ---> checks front door ---> gets file ---> calls boss ---> dialogue between them about the file ---> shot showing person in the file walking towards the house ---> close up of the door handle moving.
(7) Mise-en-scene/setting: The setting of this film will be shot all within a house, with one shot showing the outside but the camera will be placed inside. The first few shots will show our main character in his happy life with a clean ordered house. In the next few shots we will cut to the main character further on in life but his house being messy and dirty. This is where we can put lots of props out to create the scene.
(8) Symbolism: The Symbolism in the film is mainly the difference between the characters life at one stage and at another. One other piece of symbolism is the newspaper being compared to the file at the door.
(9) Sound and music: This will include the alarm, digetic sound, music to build suspense, phone notifications, door handle moving.
(10) Credits and Logos: The credits will show what each one of us has done to do with this film and some of us may choose to use some opening credits. Logos will be put into this film and this will be the first time we have done this.
(11) Editing will be very basic and will include colour grading and after effects to show the phones notifications.
Beginning:
This is the idea that the "brother" character will wear.
This is like the suit we want our MC to wear after he has finished getting ready and is in the kitchen.
This is how we want the house to look when the MC is in the dull period of his life.
This is how we want the MCs house to look when he is in his happy life and everything is in order.
We want to have beer bottles like this scattered around the house to try and create a sense of a "mid- life crisis."
We want the kitchen to look like this when the character is in his dull life.

Character Synopsis:
Our Character has gone through a massive change in the past two years. His life has changed from being an orderly happy life, to a messy and dull life. The happy life in this film is shown almost as a dream because the happy life ends when an alarm clock goes off. This triggers the Main character to wake up and we see him in a messy room two years later. It is like the alarm clock pulled him back into the present and away from what his life was like two years earlier. Our character in the dull life in definitely an alcoholic as we can see empty bottles all around. We also find out the our character is into some dangerous things as there are also weapons such as guns, knifes and poisons dotted around the house. This shows us how far down our characters life has gone and shows the audience more about who he is. Our character also has a strong relationship with his brother who we later find out is someone he has to kill because his brother is in a file he receives. In that file is someone he always has to kill. This time it's his brother.

Concept for Foundation Portfolio
Title:
"The Everyday Assassin"
Concept:
The concept for our Foundation Portfolio (FP) is consisted of a man who goes through a mid life crisis over a period of two years. In one scene at the beginning of this opening sequence we will show this man in a happy life with everything in order. Then to seg way into the middle of the film we will use the sound of an alarm going off and cut into what the mans life is like two years into the future (which is actually the present) The mans life will have changed dramatically and we can see this through the mise en scene and the lighting. We will have props to show a messy house and effects to create a darker scene. The end of the opening scene will show the man receiving a file at his front door and opening it. Within the file there will be a photo and a description about who the man has to kill. However to add a twist the person the man has to kill is actually his brother. The man will then phone the person who dropped off the file at his house and they have an argument. While he is having this argument we see the brother through a window walking towards the house. The last shot the we see will be the door handle shaking as if it is about to open.
The Target audience that we wish to aim at is going to be the young adults group and the adults group. The age group will be anywhere from 13+.

FOUNDATION PORTFOLIO PLANNING(GILMARK)
Story Board
Location:
for the location we are going for a stark contrast in how the main character lives his life. in the first life he wakes up in a brightly lit room, this is meant to show that he is happy with his life and that he is well off and comfortable. He walks down a well-lit hallway that is clean and uncluttered and goes to have breakfast in the kitchen where it's clean and bright. The countertop is clean and there are no dishes in the sink.
he pours himself a steaming cup of coffee and spreads butter on some golden brown toast. he goes and sits down on a clean couch and places his breakfast on a nice coffee table.
He then wakes up again but this time the room is dimly light with grey and blue hues to emphasize that his life is much duller now. the alarm clock is knocked onto the floor along with all the other things that litter clustered all over the floor and on top of his bed. when walks down the hallway it's filled with rubbish all over the.he enters a messy kitchen with dishes of unfinished food everywhere and papers dispersed over the countertop. He pours himself some alcohol instead of coffee and his toast is burnt and stale.
Concept:
Ordinary Assassin
Audience: 15+ years old because there is implied violence and substance abuse, both theme arent suitable for an immature audience.
a younger audience may not understand all the implications and so the thriller aspect will be lost to them.
Conventions:
Weapons are a common thriller convention we intend to take advantage of. weapons can invoke a real sense of danger with ease and so even just showing them make it clear that there is an element of danger within the film. We intend to use guns knives and poison bottles to convey this sense of danger, these will work well because Alexander our main character is an assassin so these objects wouldn't be foreign to him.
The contrast of lives is a convention we intend to use as this helps emphasize the severity of his current situation. he used to be a normal man but now he lives a life of danger which has turned him into a rugged man who no longer takes care of himself. This can also help the audience to sympathize with him as he is now in a tough situation.
Dim lighting will be used to help conceal information from the audience, creating a sense of danger of the unknown as the audience is put into the same situation as the main character. it additionally helps to portray a darker more sinister side to a character as the darkness suggests that he is hiding something, this convention pair well with the use of weapons and other dangerous utilities. helping to flesh out Alexander, the main character, more
Using awkward angles allows for a distortion of the scene showing that there is an unsteadiness to the scene shot types such as the Dutch angle or canted shots will help with this effect these are also a common theme to the thriller genre.
A modern-day setting allows the audience to connect more to the film as the events that happen onscreen will feel as if they could happen to them in real life inviting a deeper level of audience engagement.
suburbs are a common place for thrillers this way because there are many concealed locations and hidden places which can have many unknown dangers lying around any corner.
Plot Synopsis
Alexander a seemingly normal man wakes up in his bedroom, brightly lit and birds chirping outside. a warm glow penetrated through the curtains and set the same atmosphere for the room. Alexander gently emerges from his cozy blankets and heads out of his room towards the kitchen. His feet almost glide down the hallway as he passes a picture frame. a small picture stood upon the hallway table, bigger than an average notebook, on the picture Alexander stood embracing his brother and smiling towards the camera.
Alexander urns the doorknob and enters the kitchen it too was elegantly illuminated crisp clear rays of sunlight burst from the blinds and into the kitchen. Alexander prepares his breakfast, two slices of toast and a cup of steaming coffee. as he sits down to eat he receives a text from his brother." ready for the trip Alex?"
suddenly an alarm goes off, it's consistent and infuriating.
Alexander finds himself waking up once again but this time the room is dull and darkly lit. the rays struggle to find their way into the room and so the room stays cold and uninviting. reluctantly Alexander wakes up and swats the annoying alarm right off the bedside table onto the mess ridden floor. piles of books and clothes occupied most of the real estate and the rest was a mixture of food and empty beer bottles. Alex stepped out from his blankets and onto the floor dragging his feet into the hallway and towards the kitchen, the hallway was no better than his bedroom. almost an exact mirror. The table in the hallway was replaced with a menacing looking cabinet and there was no longer a picture of him and his brother.
In the kitchen, Alex began preparing his breakfast. His steaming cup of coffee was replaced with a bottle of alcohol and his crispy golden brown toast was replaced with two slices of burnt and stale bread. As he sits down to enjoy his breakfast he receives an anonymous text saying." pick up the file and complete the contract, REWARD: $100,000.00" Alex did like the text said he picked up the file from his front door and opened it with shock. his next contract was his brother. he was furious and began angrily texting back saying why he wouldn't do it. the anonymous man simply replied," He's after you too." all of a sudden a knock came from the door and Alex reached for his gun.
Character Synopsis:
Alexander- He is the main character he used to be an ordinary man now he an ordinary assassin the main conflict is between him and his attacker who is suspected to be his brother. Alexander goes through a huge change which is outlined at the beginning of the film this show the man he used to be and what he became after.
The Brother- The Brother first appears on the picture in the hallway. this is used to show the relationship that the two characters have and that they are close. he is also the main tension builder as we see his perspective of him approaching Alexanders house, implying that he is the one coming to kill Alex.
The Anonymous Man- the text man is used to explain what Alexander does now and his conflict with his brother. at the beginning he is seen as the protagonist until it becomes clear that he is trying to help Alex.
